Dan at classic said it could be up to a year before he could do mine. Said his backlog is problematic. I asked to be put on his waiting list. I never dreamed it would be this hard to get a stock replaced. I am not giving up. I am determined to have this gun stocked if I have to try it myself. I appreciate everyone's help. Is there any contact information for Brian Dudley?

Larry is also top notch. He did work for me with leather pads, recut checkering, et al. Like all good stockers, he, too, is busy. Best to get on someone’s que as soon as possible.
Now, if you’re handy and have patience, both of which I lack, Cottage Craft Industries out of Texas cuts blanks for refitting. Look at their web site.
Good luck.

Spoke with Larry at Dutchman via emails and while he is good I am sure he is too expensive. At least for my retired pocketbook. I will contact the ones suggested above and hop for the best. Thanks again everyone.

Hate to say it, but if you think Larry is expensive, you shouldn’t even give the other guys a call. Larry was always one of the more “reasonable” aka affordable stockers that still did very nice work.

You know I don't understand. I know everyone needs to make a living and it takes a lot of talent to fit wood but really? I was an aerospace machinist for 36 years and retired. I have made parts for everything with wings even the space shuttle program and even with overtime I never made per hour what some of the folks charge. It is just a shame I can't get a stock put on this gun. I have done some pretty remarkable stuff with metal and if all else fails I will buy up some blanks and try and do it myself. At worst I will wind up with firewood. By the way BMDGUNSTOCKS is an unsecured site and won't come up and Cottage Craft Industries doesn't list anything for a Charles Daly. I also have a 10ga Braddell and Sons double and a 12ga Syracuse Arms that both need a forearm. Probably won't have any lunch there either. Guess I have just got a bunch of scrap...

I can assure you; in 2025 there isn’t a gunsmith alive capable of high quality stock making that doesn’t wish to make at least HALF of what the aerospace machine shops charge per hour! We might actually make this living you alluded to. Likewise, the top guys charging these prices still have backlogs exceeding two years, cheaper doesn’t help with that situation!
How much time do you think it takes to make a stock in one-off fashion, finish it, and checker it?
I implore you to make one yourself, seriously. You’ll then understand the reason for the cost and have great respect for those that do it well.
