I can find no mention of a rubber or dogs-head butt plate in any of the literature I have. However, the gun that was pictured on gunbroker.com looked quite original and, as I said above, the dimensions were 14-3/8 LOP as they are with all the steel ones. I thought about buying it just in case it was real... It would be interesting to hear from the guy who bought it or anyone who has one.

Parker Repros were offered with the skeleton butt, and an option of a leather buttpad. I am not aware of a "dog head" being an option. I recently sold the only "leather " that I have ever seen. I purchased it about 20 years ago from the son of the original purchaser. In past "Blue Books" they are mentioned as an option. This gun was a 2 barrel set, the buyer took the 28" M/F barrel for his existing single barrel set and is now selling it again on GunBroker.

Here's the reference I was recalling, I think, concerning the DHBP option. It's from Gene Hill's "Shotgunner's Notebook" column in Gun Dog magazine. Unfortunately, I have only a Xerox copy of the article, not the original magazine, so I can't identify the specific issue. But it must have been shortly after the Repros were introduced, because Hill says: "I first saw one last January when Tom Skeuse introduced them at the SHOT Show . . ." Back then, of course, Hill was one of the most influential writers on shotguns, and the article in question is his review of the field test Repro he received. In it he states:

"All the guns have automatic ejectors and the stocks are finished with either a metal skeleton butt plate or solid hard rubber with the classic dog and bird cameo."

Larry's post reminded me of an article in the May 1985 AMERICAN HUNTER magazine that I had tucked away. "The Parker Reproduction Rebirth Of A Classic", Michael Hanback, lists the "rubber butt plate" as an option under "Specifications".
