Looks similar to some of the stuff in his gun smithing book. The curly ash is something you don’t very often see on a Mauser.

I have a copy of his two volume set “The Modern Gunsmith”, if you tell me what figures there look similar, I would be happy to post them.

Ok we have different editions, I’ve got the two volume set and it was autographed by Howe in 1934, I wish I could have helped.

Here’s Whelen’s 1895 stocked by Howe. Schnable forend looks very similar.

I don't really see anything that I would consider Howe like on the stock.

Ok, if Dan says it isn't a Howe stock, you should believe him.

To my knowledge, on bolt action rifles, Howe tended to use horn forend tips and grip caps. His cheekpieces were dished, though that is hard to see in photos sometimes.
I have one Howe rifle, it is discussed here

My Howe

Here is a thread that discussed all the little strange things, that Howe did, that help to identify his work.
Howe stock embellishments

In the latter thread, LRF makes a point
"... the express sights on the Springfield above are very nice and prove his metal working skills. As to stock design and execution of making and finishing the stock, not so much"
so maybe not being done by Howe isn't such a bad thing.

I like the stock on the rifle that you posted, thanks for creating this thread, it is always nice to look at a fine rifle.
