UPS just sent me a $295 tariff bill for the antique Charles Lancaster double rifle I brought in from Italy this month.
A couple of months ago I received an 1876 John Dickson 16 bore hammer gun from the same auction house. No 10% duty on that one.
I am sure that in a few short months the US will be awash in cheap, domestically produced new rifles and shotguns from the 1880s as production of antiques is brought back to the USA. Small towns across the nation will soon be at full employment again, and young men will leave their parent's basements and their PlayStations and Xboxes to start families and go back to church.
In all seriousness, the idea of leveling the playing field is not a bad one. The way this administration is pursuing it, however, is clumsy, disruptive to our economy and alliances, and could certainly have been done more competently.
