Seems I lost my spreadsheets for the 16 ga Reloaders group. Looking for a 2-1/2" Cheddite hull load. Last time I loaded this I used 800x powder now I can no longer get.
Please show me some 1 ounce hunting type loads using Cheddite components . I also have a stock of SG-16 wads...
Thanks!
Mike

Mike, my standard 1 oz load uses Universal and I load it for my 2 3/4” guns. That being said here are two loads that I “captured” somewhere back in the past just in case I decided to load some 1 oz 2 1/2’s. They both utilize Longshot which is still readily available.
20 gr of LS under a SG 16 w/ Ched hull and Ched 209 for a claimed 1161 & 5222. 17 gr of LS under a SG 16 +.040 card w/ Ched hull and CCI 209 for a claimed 1045 & 5580.
I haven’t had occasion to load either of these so can’t vouch for the accuracy of the numbers. Use at your own discretion.

Little Creek, I think that first load FallCreekFan gave is one I sent him a few months ago. I had that load, and another which differed only by using 22 gr Longshot, tested by Precision Reloading. If you are interested, PM me your email and I will send you the test report.

Any load that fits into a 6 crimp 2 3/4" hull will fit into a 2 1/2" hull roll crimped.
This is from the Hodgdon site using 7/8 oz. shot. 2 1/2" hull Hodgdon Universal Ched. 209 BP/SPTG16 19.5 7,300 1,125
Hodgdon Universal Ched. 209 BP/SPTG16 19.9 7,500 1,150

These were tested by Precision Reloading 8/2/23:
Cheddite cut to 2.5 in, Ched 209, Longshot 20.0, SG16, 1 oz lead, OSC, roll crimp: 1161, 5222 Cheddite cut to 2.5 in, Ched 209, Longshot 22.0, SG16, 1 oz lead, OSC, roll crimp: 1261, 6172
I split the difference and use 21 grains Longshot for my hunting load.

the website, 24hourcampground.com, maintains several of the older, and newer lists from the low pressure group. i have posted a link to a message inside that site, that copies another useful source document taken from an article by ross seyfried - originally published in shooting times...i believe. it was reprinted in the summer 2021 edition, of double gun journal, under the title of "taking the pressure off". it offers some good information that should be useful in your search. https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...16ga-low-pressure-load-data#Post17789912we often sing the praises of sherman bell, and his extremely useful series of articles regarding low pressure loads for our old guns, and having thought of this post last night, i have pulled out and reread seyfried's article in dgj this morning. it deserves the same respect. best regards, tom

Have you loaded these with a standard folded crimp? What would be the pressure difference in such a case?

I use 20.5 grains of Longshot and 1 ounce of shot in a 2.5" cheddite hull. SG 16 wad. This load on my chronograph is 1185 fps. I shoot a lot of skeet and live birds with this load with great success.

Longshot seems pretty ideal for 16s. I used a similar load when I shot a 16.
