Couldn't find a quote about SAs for quail. He did have 2 12g semiautos; a Winchester 59 and a Remington

Robert Ruark's Christmas present from the "Old Man" was a 16g Sauer

Found this image of Ruark on the PGCA forum, unfortunately uncaptioned, with a straight stock small bore Parker. Possibly a Trojan, but only 2 28g Trojans were manufactured.
It could of course have been a borrowed gun

I live in middle Ga 40 miles south of Macon. When I was young you could hunt farm land with permission and find birds but no more. Only place to find them now are "canned" hunts for big money. Have a friend just south of Macon that does custom hunts for 600.00 per day on his family land. I hunted with my grandfathers Parker Trojan when I was young and my oldest brother has it now. My favorite now is a 20ga LeFever double when I get to go.

I still hunt wild Georgia Quail in South GA with a 28 ga.

My game bag is never full, but not from the fault of the gauge I’m carrying.

Quail numbers are not the same as in the 50’s or even 60’s, but they are still here.

I cherish the dog work and never take more than two from a covey in one day then only to get a double! Would rather return to same covey and see the dogs point again.

I work year round to provide the best habitat that I can afford to provide for these elegant birds for my dogs. Providing feed and habitat for them, just to shoot a hand full of birds for my dogs.

Also hunt in Texas on a lease that two friends an I luckily leased for a bargain because the landowner knows that we respect the birds and the land. Once again we never overshoot a covey.

For us, it all about the dogs and the experience!

DimmyW, you should just wear a pink hat like Princess SKB Stevie, and say the same thing without the pin. What are your preferred pronouns?

A successful gun writer is both talented and entertaining, but they aren't always right. It would be cool to be able to write off hunting trips and gun purchases as a business expense. Success with a shotgun on birds or clay targets involves getting some shot in the shot cloud to intersect with a moving target. That formula may involve many factors including shot volume, pattern density(choke), gun fit, and the range. A few people use the .410 bore because they can't tolerate heavy recoil. But it seems most who use it simply want more of a personal challenge, and don't care so much about using the most effective equipment to achieve a perfect score or a full limit of game.

It seems a bit silly to buy a 28 ga., and then utilize the most expensive ammo to try to turn it into a 20 or 16 ga. And just as silly to buy or reload ultralight loads to turn a 12 ga. into a 20 or .410. Ruark famously said to use enough gun. I like the idea of owning enough different guns to be able to choose one best suited to what I want to shoot.

Then get yourself an FFL instead of slinging mud from the cheap seats Princess Karen. I will send you a PM, watch for it.

All my best,
Steve

So Princess SKB Stevie, now you are back to rolling in the mud, but still too stupid to comprehend that Gun Writers don't need to have an FFL.

Send all the Spam PM's you like. But only a complete moron would spend time sending me PM's that will not be opened or read. Even DimmyW gave up on sending me PM's. However, I guess you have to do something to compensate for lacking the courage to tell us whether or not you pay Dave the $12.00 fee for each and every successful sale resulting from your Free Tagline Advertising.

Being unwilling to answer such a simple question makes it appear that you must have something to hide or be ashamed of. Personally, I wouldn't trust someone who is both stupid and gutless to handle any firearm imports, consignments, or estate liquidations. And if I ever felt "it seems so useless to remain", I'd just leave, instead of crying about it. Just my opinion, as always.

We'll all be looking forward to your next mud rolling session! Especially DimmyW... he relies on you to make him look smart.

Princess Karen,
carry on, keep rolling in the mud. I have answered your question for the last time and will not do so again. I will send you a PM though, it will contain information as to how you can address your grievances with me. Watch for it. All my best,
Steve
