Here in the United Kingdom a SxS is practically valueless because the Guntrade has promoted O/U's.
Consequently if you try to part exchange your SxS for a newer gun the dealers will either refuse to take your old gun or offer you very little money for it .
This is absolute madness, as correctly used a SxS can and will perform equally as well as an O/U is skilled hands.

So, a high condition Purdey or Boss is worth nothing, or are you talking about keeper's guns. Keeper's guns are worth nothing in the USA also.

Eightbore, in the UK the vast majority of s/s sit in all qualities and guises between "purdey" and "keeper". Although not worthless, absolutely no demand and very very low prices offered. Regards
..

Salopian;

Thank you for your comments and update on what we can see happening there in the UK. We can see the prices of SxS guns declining rapidly at UK gun dealer website, including best London guns; and some of us are taking advantage of the values offered. The prices are of such value that even having to wade through the muck and cost of the TACO tariff is worth it (at least in my case) because of significant decrease in cost of what you can buy the same gun that resides here in the USA---thousands of $.

Additionally, what is now happening in the UK on the lead to steel shot situation now that the gun cartridge companies stepped forward last month and stated that they cannot meet any near term steel shot ban, and that further the technology to build small gauge steel shot shotshells that will kill game is not possible without increasing cartridge pressures. Seems to me that the BASC an other such organization are placed into a position where they are shown to have made a significant error and are losing credibility as representing the shooting community of the UK. Will shooting community promote/propose a new organization to stand as their representative instead of the BASC?

Kindest Regards;
Stephen Howell

There are pearls, here and there.

My son just had his end of season party with his trap shooting team. It marks the end of his high school sporting activities, as he graduated the next day. There are as many girls that shoot as boys, I see this as a huge move in the right direction. A few coaches are moving on as their kids are done with the program, and I was politely asked if I’d be willing to coach next year. It is a good program, and, I just might. My kid varsity lettered on about his third week, working at a competing gun club for a few years prior had huge advantages.

The leftists governing the state of Minnesota, are involved in a naked attempt to hurt the league’s participation by forcing the league’s to use non toxic shot. There is no good reason to do that, as the clubs recover the spent lead shot, regularly. Not everybody is happy that the kids have fun and that even disabled kids are able to participate in a great school sport. The trap and skeet league’s at Minnesota high schools are among the most popular team sports.

This year, I watched a very young lady use her grandmother’s grouse gun, an SKB model 100, imported by Ithaca, to shoot on her league. She is an 8th grader, stands 5’9”, and has access to bigger and better guns, but shoots the short barreled, open choked little 20 gauge quite well. She prefers to use it because it is grandma’s.

I hope she sticks with the program. And I hope the sponsors of the bill to mandate non toxic shot in high school shooting sports in Minnesota suffer humiliating losses at re-election time.

I'd love to have a fine British side by side for what I consider a "worthless" price, but I have a feeling my "worthless" and a seller's definition are an ocean apart.

Yup. Just about exactly one ocean... smile

I am eyeballing a Henry over there. Wondering how much that ocean would cost me...

To our British cousins, I say send those beleaguered SxS here while you still can. The Labour government would love to turn them into manhole covers.

It could be a opportunity for those familiar with the import laws to buy up these guns and bring them here. I recently bought my first British game gun for about $350 and it is well used but very serviceable. It has some nice quality scroll engraving and ejectors, for those prices I would buy some more!

I had a shooting friend in KC who traveled for business to New Zealand in the 90s. After the restrictions of 1996 he came home with several high $ target guns; some he kept and some he sold at a nice profit.
