Hi all, long time lurker, new member, first post.

I picked up a Crescent Peerless complete receiver on GunBroker as a $50 "gunsmith special" to practice engraving. No wood, no barrel. But it was in pretty good shape for 100+ years old. It really wasn't my intent to do "real" engraving. I’m patient, but I’m not that patient. And I don't have any of the right tools. Instead, I used a Dremel with a ball burr to basically texture the plates. That's why I call it “engraving-adjacent.”
But honestly, I think it came out pretty well.

Here's the process pic.

Next step: bluing

And then I'll carve a stock. How hard could it be?

And I used Oxpho Blue on one of the plates to see how it would turn out. I like it:

Thank you!

Later I’ll start a thread about how “Project Gun” turned into “Project 4 Guns” through some GunBroker mishaps. The punchline: I’m an idiot.

Perhaps I can help you out.

I have a 16 gauge Crescent Peerless that appears brand new.
But someone at some time in it’s history broke the stock.

I’m not sure how they lost it, but when the stock was broken they misplaced the trigger guard and the two screws.

If you have a parts gun, I would be interested in some parts.

Feel free to PM.

Out there doing it best I can.

Alas my friend, the only leftover parts I have now are a barrel and partial receiver for a No. 60 Empire (successor to the Peerless).

Basically the receiver is just the block and locking mechanism. Nothing in the firing mechanism (no locks, firing pins, or trigger assembly).

very nice work!! you always have to try new things, that is the way to learn. Engraving?? veeeery difficult to master, but certainly some basic things can be done.

I was also thinking in giving a try at some very basic engraving and have found a local shop with tools for engraver in jewelry, so I will but 2-3 hardened pencils (I dont know the correct name in English).

If I could make some basic flowers in screws for example, I would be mooooore than happy
