After much research, conversations and contemplation I settled on a new bird dog. I wanted a dog that would be a pointer, would retrieve, was not hard headed, biddable, friendly with people and especially kids ( I have 5 grandkids) non aggressive with other dogs. A dog that hunted firly close (not like a western plains pointing dog that would range 300 yards or more. and one that wasnt hyper and out of sight. hard headed
She is an épagneul Francais or French Spaniel. Not to be confused with a Brittany or French Brittany.I picked my pup up on Tuesday from the guide/breeder. Her name is Annie, she is 12 weeks old.
The photo with the pup and adult dog is her with her father. I met and hunted with the breeder back in October of last year. i wanted to see how his dogs hunted (we hunted woodcock) and how he treated his dogs. And of course, he wanted to see how I treated his dogs.
Needless to say it was a great day and his dogs performed superbly. And they were friendly and enthusiastic hunters. My mind was made up then and there.
I deliberately had the breeder keep her till she was 12 weeks for a number of reasons besides my life schedule. she is already crate trained, knows basic commands, is about 90% house trained. And she gets along famously with my 10 year old Field Bred Springer Mollie.



so far she has been great. she sleeps 8 hours a night straight through. No whining, no chewing on furniture or shoes or anything..

I read yesterday of your new pup and then, coincidentally, today read Sheldon’s “High Cover” from his Tranquility tales of a century ago as the Judge and the Captain discuss the death of their hunting companion, the Captain’s spaniel Pepper, and the possibility of another dog. Then, as now, the head says things reasonable while the heart is more subtle and deep. And persuasive. Glad your heart won out.

Your little gal has a beautiful face and clearly has already endeared herself to her new home. I hope she’s all you hope for.
