BillK, That is great news, enjoy it. Maybe you can take a deer with it this year. Mike

Thank you Mike. I certainly hope so. It would be great to get this old great gun back to action. In your experience with similar cartridges as this one, would you say a deer in within 100 to 125 yards would be safe to shoot, (providing good placement shot)? Thanks. BillK

BillK, Yes, I think so. If it were mine, I would check to see if a .321" Winchester Special bullet will easily enter the neck of a case fired in the rifle. If it will easily enter the neck, I would use the "new" Flex S (?) bullet used in new lever action ammo, the bulletd seem to have a good reputation in the different calibers it is made for. The standard bullet for the cartridges weighed 196-8 grains, but the one I mentioned weighs around 170, which will give a little better balance of velocity to bullet weight. If the bullet won't fit, you can size them to .318" as they are made to expand at the velocity attainable at safe pressure. Mike

Hi forum members. Today I shot for first time my combination gun of 8X58RSauer with some ammo from Reed’s Ammunition & Research I had bought a few years back. These rounds are made with reformed cases of 303 British. I fired 8 rounds of 175g soft point .318 bullets and 3 of 200g soft point bullets. Of the 8 rounds 175g bullets, 4 cases splintered near the mouth of the case. Also, I can see some discoloration near the mouth of the cases that did not split. The cases are very thin at the mouth. What do you think the cause is? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have pics of the fired cases but I am not sure how to post them. If you can assist me with that, it would be great. Thank you, Bill

There are two potential reasons for such a dismaying effect of an obviously low (LOW) pressure reload, and my guess is that both were working together. I shall not write more, lest I sound too angry.
