One quick glance method is to note which side the Suhl Proof-Facility applied the datecode. On Pre-WWII platforms, the Proof Facility mechanics applied the datecode on the underside of the Left whilst the Post WWII platforms wear the datecode on the under side of the right tube.

I will dig a bit to see if there are any 1945 weapons that have the date on the underside of the left tube. I am not sure if this was a Russian demand or a German change?
