Trump is trying to make true free trade, and the hope is that all countries, including the U.S., will eventually eliminate tariffs, but it is a negotiation. Even his statement about eliminating income tax by substituting tariffs is a negotiation tactic, and anyone who thinks you can substitute a temporary tax for an enduring tax is not thinking. The best we can hope for is that he will be successful and that free trade will rule. At last report, Israel, Japan, and several European countries have decided to talk.
