Was at Orvis Sandanona last week with a friend of mine who was looking for a new O/U for Sporting Clays and Trap.
horrible customer service. I guess maybe because we weren't dressed in button down shirts and dockers and khakis. my bud waited 20 minutes while perusing guns and finally he spoke up to a sales person. they said they would have someone help him and 15 minutes later no help. so we left. little did they know but he could have bought any gun in the place. looks can be deceiving. but we didn't fit their "profile" of a buyer. oh well. their loss.
maybe it was an off day for all of them but that was no excuse for blowing him off.

Every business seems to be providing lack luster customer service. It has become horrible. Yet many of the companies out there has an option to leave a tip or ask if you want to round up or add a few dollars for “ Their special cause”. I would have fired half the people I deal with daily if they worked for me..

The buck stops on the manager's desk. He is the one ultimately responsible for how potential customers are treated. It just becomes "policy" to treat each potential customer with respect and attention when it flows from the top.
A friend from Savannah went to England and Scotland a few years ago for an extended visit with his daughter and her husband. He went to Purdey, Holland & Holland, and Dickson & Son. He told me that Purdey and Dickson treated him like he was about to write a six-figure check for a fine gun, but that H & H was very aloof and pretty much ignored him as he visited their establishment.
We have power, with this forum, to help affect change in situations like this by reporting how we are treated by associated businesses. Thanks for yours.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

What amazes me is that it takes so little to leave a lasting impression. I still remember visiting The Hollywood Cafe, the restaurant mentioned in the song Walking in Memphis. Every staff member treated every customer as a long lost relative. Geoffrey Gournet and many many years ago Winston Churchill talked with me at SxS shoots as if you were considering a large commission. JP Daeschler from J Dickson has taken time to discuss gun issues related to Round Actions. I don't think I can make the Southern this year but there always a lot of dealers very welcoming even if you are just window shopping.

I see customer service going down hill all the time or no service at all. Poor service is what we have. Down here there is a walmart that is close to the house that I go to. Hard to find anybody to ask a question about where something is, if you do find someone, you have to find 3 others before you find one who speaks English.

I go to Ace hardware for my supplies, its about 9 miles away, the home depot would be a long walk. Yes, I pay more at ace hardware but the service is outstanding.
In most cases as a whole great service is a thing of the past. Always exceptions but poor service is all over

When you can not get good service when you are trying to give them money, you will get worse service later if you have any problems.

I worked in retail for a few years toward the end of my working life. I was in management, so I was on the upper end of bad customer service. I fired more than a few bad ones and my customers treated me like a hero.

I think the reply “You’re welcome” has become a thing of the past when you tell someone “Thank you”. Generally the only reply is a blank stare.
