In the niche within the niche of SxS’s that I watch (16b Ithacas) it seems I’m seeing a gradual turn upward. In ‘23 I purchased the following gun which I previously mentioned here so will quote.

“Last year I purchased a gun that I had long looked for and I was the only bidder. It was an all original in fantastic condition and I bought it for the opening bid that was about 40-50% below what would have been its value just a couple of years before.“

Earlier this month I watched a field grade 16b NID. It was in used but good shape. It attracted 8 bidders and sold for about 18-20% below what it likely would have brought a few years ago.

That said, I still see plenty of Ithaca SxS’s out there with starting bids well above their current market value. They draw no interest.

We're living in a different world. I suspect the market for collectible anythings is entirely internet hysteria, or lack of, driven. Values always fluctuated to some degree or another, but now they rise and fall at unprecedented rates. Marlin lever actions of the last 40 years are selling for prices comparable to pre-64 and pre-war Winchesters. Between 2002 and 2005 the market for good antique furniture completely disappeared, at least in my area. Ditto for Lionel trains, imagine selling a like new in the box Browning sidelock, and being offered a third what you paid for it new, that's what happened to them.

Who knows, 5 years from now, AI might tell everyone they need SxS's and the market will explode, but who can predict it? I certainly can't.

From what I can see popular brands like: Browning, SKB, Winchester, Beretta, .... are holding their own. Where I seen drastic reduction in prices on old European guns. I am not sure what caused that short chambers,....?

Mere perception can be misleading without actual nationwide completed sales data. Take for example the Nutty Professor's perception that Trump would lose, and that he was going to get slaughtered in Iowa... according to misleading polling data, and wishful thinking. Sometimes figures lie, liars figure, and Trump Derangement Syndrome makes Liberal Left gun owners look pretty dumb.

On the internet gun auction sites I follow, there still seems to be a respectable number of bidders and buyers for 12 gauge doubles. Overpriced guns with ridiculously high reserves don't sell... same as in the past. And among the brands of vintage American doubles I follow, the hammer prices are higher than they were 10 to 20 years ago. I'm sure overall price inflation is a factor, but they seem to be holding their own.

As I type this, I'm waiting for the Big Brown Truck to deliver an Antique Syracuse Lefever that was advertised as a 12 gauge. However, it may turn out to be a 10 gauge according to bore, choke, and wall thickness dimensions provided, which would make me happy.

By now, we all should understand that the collapse in British Double prices was almost entirely due to a large increase in supply, and reduced demand over there. British gun owners have been unloading their guns because of things like onerous licensing and storage restrictions and lead ammo bans. They are being driven out of the game by increased costs and regulations. The cause and effect is clearly evident. The same thing could easily happen here in the U.S. if enough gun owners remain willfully blind, and continue to support and vote for anti-gun Democrats.

Unfortunately, that would involve convincing them to remove their heads from their asses.

As I understand it, I think we're likely safe where lead is concerned on the federal level. The EPA does not have the authority to regulate lead in ammunition. But watch out for what's happening at the state level.

Before the election, lots of things were being threatened and the prices for them were clearly depressed. With the election now safely past, we're resuming more-normal pricing once again. I'm seeing that in guns, old cars, and even vintage fishing tackle.

As far as EPA and lead...most don't have a clue as to how lucky we really are now. I was in several technical staff meetings in the summer of 2023 where "lead" was being discussed (in almost hushed terms) and the goal was clearly to expand the then current regulations to before unheard-of limits (the real goal was never clearly stated but...it was pretty obvious to me). The only thing stopping the Biden-EPA folks was how that might be perceived by the general public (& to come up with the "science" to explain it) and how that would affect ongoing industry (and the economy) and even then, how it would affect even previous environmental clean-ups around the country. The better (i.e., less-woke) technical staff was pointing out all of the problems that would create for any State and Federal regulators trying to enforce them. Clearly, the Biden-EPA folks were waiting for the pending election cycle to end before openly discussing these "new" environmental laws. If Kamala Harris had won, there is no doubt in my mind that these incredibly onerous regulations would have been promulgated.

IMHO...we came really close to losing many of our rights and freedoms. Too damn-close to even imagine. Chills me to even think about it now.

Sadly, none of that would have swayed the foolish gun owners who have seen decades of evidence that proves the Democrat Party is constantly working to erode our Gun Rights. Most all of them would still vote for Kamala Harris, or any other anti-gun Democrat. I don't get it. Transgender activism and Woke perversions must be very high on their list of priorities.

We just saw Crying Bob start a Thread a week ago to whine and cry about the new tax on ammunition in California. Several days later, he was trashing Donald Trump and anyone who supports him.

Clearly, Crying Bob and most other Liberal Left gun owners obviously flunked out of "connecting the dots" training in Kindergarten.

The market is down due to reduced demand. Today I looked at 1924 vintage 20ga Sterlingworth 2.5" chambers, 28" IM-Full chokes. It had some carry wear with original bluing on barrels plus most original varnish remaining, mechanically 100% about as easy to reassemble as a new Merkel. The tag said $949. Not long ago that would have been price of run of the mill 12ga.
