Prof, you can talk to James about the Canadians that he knows that have had to travel to the states to get quality med8cal care. He knows more of them than I do. But, I know a few. Yea, the tariffs were negotiated under Trump. Guess what? They are being negotiated, again. The Canadian lady, hardly a spigot of right wing news, spelled quite a few things out: https://elizabethnickson.substack.com/p/canada-is-a-failed-state-and-markBest, Ted ____________________________________________________________________________________________ Stupid is having to post the same news article twice for some dummy to read. I always enjoyed her op-eds before she disappeared from the MSM 20 years ago. For any non Canadians who think she’s exaggerating, she is not. And her assessment of both the underlying reasons for and the path of our decline and falls is spot on. She nailed it. In every way. And it all started with Quebec and what we call the Laurentian Elites. They are the monied core of political/academic/government regulated industry leaders who control the country from the three way axis of Ottawa/Montreal/Toronto. Brent, you would do well to move onto a subject other than our unbelievably protected dairy industry. It’s clear you know little about it. It has been transformed into a Marxist showpiece that benefits an ever decreasing number of Quebec dairy farmers on the backs of every single Canadian, but especially working class families. Price controls and production controls thar cost Canadian consumers billions annually while destroying family farms at the same time. Millions of gallons of milk thrown out rather than allowing production quota overages into the market. It’s a national embarrassment. And it penalizes those who can afford it the least. Since the supply management protection racket began in the 1970s the number of dairy farms has plummeted from 175,000 to under 10,000. This isn't simply consolidation. Due to our arcane party leadership election rules that really allow outsiders to game the system, it became patently obvious that non-conservatives associated with the dairy farmers of Quebec had joined the Conservative Party of Canada to skewer the results and have the newly elected leader (in 2017) signal this by ostentatiously drinking a big glass of milk in the middle of his victory speech. What's is going on, one might ask? It's all in aid of kowtowing to Quebec.

My understanding is that it started when Trump asked the Canadians to police their Southern Border to stop the fentanyl that has become an export from the labs in Canada since Canada has legalized the possession of most of those types of illegal substances. Trudeau refused and insulted the U.S. (Canada doesn't want to pay for police or a military). The next step was the Canadians booing the U.S. national anthem at a hockey game in the U.S., to show support, I guess, for the fentanyl producers. Trump retaliated with the tariffs. Canada has had 150% tariffs on U.S. dairy products for many years now, for one thing, if you think U.S. tariffs are unfair. Also, Trump wants U.S. companies to make their products in the U.S. Canada manufactures automobiles for U.S. companies, and Trump wants what he ran on. The way I see it, Trudeau should have HELPED close the border to the fentanyl and not pissed off Trump. Finally, those are Albertans who are in Canada saying they want independence from the Canadian government and possibly U.S. citizenship. According to the video, 34% of Albertans are ready now, and that has nothing to do with the U.S. or Trump.

....In other words, the dumbass finally figured out he made a terrible deal, so now he wants to renege on bargain. The guy is a fraud, a waste, and abusive. Dumber than a box of rocks, like his followers. Bottom line, he was out negotiated by the Canadians, who haven't paid a dime in tariffs, in contrast to your fraudulent claims. Good thing there's no dogeing for wasting bandwidth, huh prof.

In 1967 my family and I went to the Worlds Fair in Montréal. I was just a little shaver then, but my memories of Canada from that time were nothing but positive. Contrast that with the visions my brother and I were exposed to on our little sojourn thru Canada (to the Nothwest Angle) last spring. Everything looked pretty sad to me.
There are huge risks for both countries if Canada does indeed come apart. The United States has plenty of it's own problems and adding a few Canadian provinces wont help much with all that. Socialism and then criminals seems to be at the root of both of our problems.
I sure hope the conservative party in Canada has a chance to address both of those issues, and soon.

I attended Expo 67 in Montreal as well Lloyd. it was great. It was the last positive contribution to my country that Quebec made.
What most of you are missing is the enemy isn't Canada. It's liberal socialists. In both countries. The reason Albertans have the highest polling in favour of becoming a 51st state is because they have the highest percentage of truly conservative voter.
Lloyd, The bigger risk for Canadians is the status quo. Americans are experiencing turmoil right now because you voted to upend the status quo. The theory is you will be a better, stronger, richer nation when the changes the Trump administration are making have played out and we can see their long term, real world consequences.
Canadians have not yet made that decision. Some notable minority thinks we should, but the majority do not yet understand the seriousness, the existential threat of our problems. Trudeau was an un-serious person. He absolutely personified what we call the Laurentian Elites. Trump's actions will have the disruptive yet necessary effect of throwing the cold water of realism into the faces of those people. At some point it will become apparent to the masses that we have been led down the garden path.
Change is always hard and central Canadians in particular are used to relative smooth sailing. Our short and medium term future will be difficult, no doubt. There is the possibility we will learn our lessons and in the long run, become a better, stronger, richer nation (or three) that actually does partner with America, instead of take from her. .
It all starts with exposing the socialist lie. Just as it does in the US.

My satirical comments seems entirely unrecognized by many of our regulars here.
I just thought an inane post by the OP deserved follow up by something similarly ridiculous.

Just an outsider pretending you understand what’s going on. Actually some of my referenced "family" are Canadian, and we quite enjoy visits with them. And FYI my use of "inane" holds a different meaning than "insane" on both sides of our border if I can untangle the complexities of our adjoining use of the English language, eh? Turn that frown upside down!

Inane? More "tongue in cheek," I think. Remember what your mother taught you about manners.
