My understanding is that it started when Trump asked the Canadians to police their Southern Border to stop the fentanyl that has become an export from the labs in Canada since Canada has legalized the possession of most of those types of illegal substances. Trudeau refused and insulted the U.S. (Canada doesn't want to pay for police or a military). The next step was the Canadians booing the U.S. national anthem at a hockey game in the U.S., to show support, I guess, for the fentanyl producers. Trump retaliated with the tariffs. Canada has had 150% tariffs on U.S. dairy products for many years now, for one thing, if you think U.S. tariffs are unfair. Also, Trump wants U.S. companies to make their products in the U.S. Canada manufactures automobiles for U.S. companies, and Trump wants what he ran on. The way I see it, Trudeau should have HELPED close the border to the fentanyl and not pissed off Trump. Finally, those are Albertans who are in Canada saying they want independence from the Canadian government and possibly U.S. citizenship. According to the video, 34% of Albertans are ready now, and that has nothing to do with the U.S. or Trump.
