Bill;
I think that scope will be just about perfect. I use one on one of my rifles. The weight and balance is to my liking.

Does anyone have a loading recommendation for an 8x58R Sauer. Per Rainey’s comment, the original load shown on the barrel is 1,7 Grammes G.B.P. / S.T.m.G. Thank you. BillK

Here is a sentence for which I was searching.....
>>Though N140 is a bit slower burning than the obsolete R5(Rottweil No. 5), it gives similar results with a bit less pressure ....<<

I hope Ford will stop by on your thread but for the 8x58R, the Shooter's Bible - 1940 (I think??) gives 2 grammes of R.5RRottweil) with the 12,7 gramme bullet also for 530 m/s at 25 meters (1600 kg./cm2)? As always, you are on your own with these numbers. The old powder Rottweil 5 is noted as being closely replicated with VV(Vihtavuori) N 140, which is my staple.
Also the 1940 Shooter's Bible gives that >> 2.1 grams W1920 powder with 10 gram bullet for 624 m/s at 25meters( 2000 kg./cm2).<<

While I do not load 8x58R, I do load the similar but slightly more powerful 8x57R 360. As Raimey indicates above, I too guide on R5 data when available but being older I have a supply of military "pull down" IMR 4895 which I use to replace R5 rather than N140. As mandated by careful handloading procedures, I do reduce the indicated load by about 10% and work back up while watching chronograph data and traditional signs of high pressure (recognizing that with "tip up" combination guns, if traditional high-pressure indicators show, they are already likely too high, so I stop if the target velocity is reached). Also, while most data above is for the 196-grain bullet, for this class of cartridges I would typically use a 170-grain bullet (I often use bullets different than .318" when the particular rifle will accept it, as indicated by the often-described test of checking the fit of the larger bullet in the neck of a fired case. When a larger bullet cannot be used, I load a 170 grain .321" bullet which has been resized to .318"). If I do start to load 8x58R ammo, I expect to load it by similar procedures, using acceptable bullets, IMR 4895, and reformed original length (2.125- 2.130") 38-55 cases and will accept the responsibility for it and will expect anyone else to accept responsibility for theirs since they would know their own equipment, components, and rifle while I would not. Thank you. Buffalo Arms and Reeds Ammo have several .318 diameter bullets. In your opinion, which bullet type and weight would be more acceptable for the 8X58R Sauer? .318 139g soft point (8mm J bore) .318 175g .318 195g
Reeds Ammo .318 170g RN .318 170g SP .318 175g spritzer .318 170g FN jacketed .318 209g SP
Thank you BillK

Well, from what little I know about it, I would chose the 0.318" 195 grain(12,6-12,7 grammes) bullet.
