I saw this 1903 on gunbroker, the auction is over, but I wondered what people thought of it.

The “Boyt” Sling is nice

I was intrigued by the edges of the cheekpiece, I wish the pictures had been better.

The first picture of the cheek made me think of a Ballard custom rifle that I used to covet. But it is not that. Looks like he wanted some sort of border, but it is hard to see if it is at the same height as the cheek or recessed a bit or what. The forearm checkering panels look like they might be raised above the main part of the stock, but again, the pictures are a bit odd. Not the best checkering there, but this guy seems to have some more or less original ideas. The line of the buttstock looks to be offset perhaps (picture #18), sort of like cast off but a bit different, or another illusion?

I take it you did not buy it. At that price it would be tempting.

No, I am not buying much these days. The passing of friends have made me want to start selling things. That being written, the sling and swivels on that rifle probably would sell for over $200 on eBay.

I impulsively bought a shotgun last week. I would have been much better off spending the same money on that rifle.

I like it. There is a lot of work there. A low number gun but I would still buy it. I like the barrel and the panels. Are they above the level of the stock wood?

I like it too... especially the 1/2 round 1/2 octagon barrel. The value of the nice Lyman 48 sight and Winchester fish hook swivels is easily $300... So a gamble on the rest would be easy for me. I'd like to know If the stock was cut for the spacer & pad, if not, a Neidner buttplate would look amazing... I wish I had seen it.
