So I had my target o/u in my truck, locked in a takedown case. Went to go shooting tonight, and it was gone!
Car was broken into, thief stole my o/u (with custom wood dimensions!!!) and six boxes of ammo.
But get this... Thief left everything else, including money, radar detector, etc.
Not good. Yet another gun that will now be on the national registry of stolen firearms.......
Shot that thing well too..........

Joshua, So sorry to hear your misfortune. Where did it happen? At the range or before you left.
I bet the police had some nice things to say.
I see you are listed as NY. Did you move?
So many guns, so little time!

A friend once had a mini-cam, large professional high end video camera worth about $14k stolen from his house. He reported it and then kept his eye on the local Recycler, a classified paper. Within a few weeks he spotted it advertised. He called the investigating officer (likely not working on finding the camera) and told him the story. The officer blew him off saying that there are many cameras for sale. Bullshnot! It was the only one anywhere near that value in that or any other paper in the area. Anyway, he sent another friend to look it over get the s/n and "make an offer". The jest of the story is; post the gun description and s/n everywhere you can, ranges, bbs's, etc, along with some good pics, if you have them. It may garner a lead, but you'll have to be the "investigator".

Joshua:
Sorry for the loss. Can you give info on the shotgun? I'll let people know at Binghamton. What part of NY are you from?

Chuck's story reminds me of a similar experience I had with an ex-girlfriends step son. He showed up back in town several years after a hasty, unexplained exit. Girlfriend never showed anything but kindness to this loser, and, of course, several days later, her home was broken into and trashed. Among the mostly worthless things taken was a softball sized brass statue of a roaring African lion. I asked a neighbor lad of the same age as loser if he had seen him, and where he was staying. Well, turns out he was staying in a trailer park, less than one mile from his step mom's home. I showed up at the trailer (stepson wasn't home, but, a roomie was) and there in the bay window, sat the brass lion! I borrowed roomie's cell phone to summon the police, who informed me in no uncertain terms they were "too busy" to play around like this! I was flabergasted, and the police dispatcher assured me his rap sheet was very long for a person of his age, but, that was the end of it. Several months later, said loser made the national network news when Coon Rapids police arrested him among a gang of thieves working the expensive property along the Mississippi river there. Notable, was the fact, loser was armed, and tried to escape, running over a police officers foot with a vehicle, and was apprehended, after the police had fired nine shots into his vehicle (one shot struck loser, and it wasn't life threatening). I remember thinking with nine shots, a good excuse, and a badge, I would have seen to this puke's meeting with St. Peter, but, I digress. Last I heard, loser thought he he was going to sue the Coon Rapids police, claiming the shot to his left arm caused permanent damage. Good luck with any relief from the constabulary, but, experience has taught us that solving, or resolving crime, just isn't their forté. Best, Ted

Joshua, You may want to check with your home owner's insurance, it may be covered under the policy. Buzz

Joshua, sorry to hear about your loss. I would do just like Chuck said, give a good description along with the serial number and hope for the best. It doesn't hurt to put it in as many places as you can. As far as home insurance, I think the only will cover about $500.00 for jewerly and/or fire arms. You would need a floater on your insurance. I think it is around $100.00 a $1,000.00. Good luck and I hope you recover it.
