Stan, have you posted your 3/4 ounce .410 loads on the internet? I have room for 3/4 ounce in my Remington empties, but haven't shot them yet.

I am limited by the powder, shot size I can get, so I am going to try using 9's in 1/2 oz loads and 8's in 11/16 oz loads. The 2 courses I shoot most often have several stations where my best bet is to load a 1/2 oz load in 1 barrel and a 11/16 in the other barrel. I know this is contrary to the best shooters who try to eliminate variables but I am shooting 410, which is a different animal.

If I cut the petals off a Pattern Control orange wad, I can get about .800 ounce of shot in a 3" Remington shell. I think if I cut 1/2 of the petals, I could still get an honest 3/4 of an ounce. With an unmodified wad, I get the factory 11/16 ounce of shot. I think these are #8 shot. Too cold to shoot patterns. I may find out that the petals improve the pattern a lot....or not.

My 3” Rottweil .410 O/U has fixed 1/4 and half chokes.

Considering all the above it looks as if I should stick to 8 shot for clays, perhaps 9 for Skeet

I have not, Bill, because they're not pressure tested as yet. I may do so at some point with a clear disclaimer. No petals are removed from my wads and the payload actually weighs .73 oz. The nickel plating reduces the overall weight/density so I haven't been able to get a full 3/4 oz. in them yet, and I'm using roll crimps to get more room. I am actually trying to make some all brass hulls out of 9.3 X 74R rifle brass on the hunch that there will be greater case capacity. I'm in the process of fireforming them now. I'm a bit excited to see what I will eventually be able to squeeze into them. I don't expect to reinvent the wheel. It's just a fun project for me, 'cuz I love fo'tens.

Stan, maybe you could try a case a bit longer than 3". Of course, you would have to bore out the chambers on one of your .410s.

Nah, as Harry Callahan once quipped "A man's got to know his limitations."

I shot the same sporting course yesterday as Friday, same gun but I switched out .008 choke going with .012 in both barrels. I used 1/2 oz of 9's and cheated with 11/16 of 8's for the targets over 30 yards. Scores went from 34/50 to 40/50. At least using this combination I feel if I missed it wasn't because of the gun or load but operator error.
