This is from mid-December. It is the last I have seen. The latest from Mr. Cote: "For reasons far beyond our control, the belated delivery is because of MY serious medical condition which has kept me at bay with the Urology department to which I have been "tethered" for the past almost 5 months; before that it was Shingles which hit me in November of 2023 and literally took the life out of me into January of 2024. We are going to the publishing company by Christmas, and are promised delivery to U.S. addresses to commence in the month of February '25."

"As if these above-mentioned problems were not enough, Joanna and I both had serious bouts with the flu. But far and above everything I have mentioned, we lost our son, Danny, on May 16,2024... throughout it all, we managed to continue preparation of the book and will finally be getting it to the book publisher (in Canada) at least by the end of this month of December. Of course, due to our unavoidable punctual ineptitude, orders all but dried up and we needed to borrow money to complete the project... you see, Joanna and I put everything we had into those last 2+ years of DGJ publication--thinking that somehow we could pull ourselves back into profit. I thank all of you for your extreme patience and never wanted to encumber you with all these personal problems we have, but it was finally well overdue that I should do so. Joanna and I still own the journal and continue to offer all the back issues and most of the products we had for more than 32 years....... order on our website or just call Joanna and I at: 800.447.1658 - or- danieljoanna1945@gmail.com"

Too often these supposed “golden years” are anything but. I appreciate Daniel’s honesty in sharing their health struggles as well as their personal heartache as they’ve labored to get this last chapter of the Double Gun journey into print. I’m confident it will have been worth the wait and I hope for them better days ahead.

It is very sad to read about decline in the health of a person who is a friend of us all.

That, and he buried his child.

I can’t imagine.

Best,

Neither can I Ted; God has spared me of that. Below is the obituary of their son.

Kind regards;

Neither can I. So, so sad.

Daniel gets a pass in my book. He owes me some money from undelivered issues but, if I never get anything from it, I'm fine with that. His happiness and well being is worth so much more than a few piddling dollars. But, if buying the last Index and Reader would help him and Joanna financially I'll be more than glad to buy it.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

I'm a hit or miss guy with you guys, but I have a real connection with the DGJ. I can't imagine losing a child.
I lost my brother a year before my mother entered a long drawn out battle with dementia. Every time I visited her, she'd ask about Doug and where he was. The first time I said to her, Mom don't you remember Doug passed? She was shocked, and had to live the loss again. I think losing a child is the worst thing that can happen to a parent.
I'm so sorry for them.

I cannot imagine such a loss. My older brother just lost his youngest son, in his thirties. That is just not the way it is supposed to be. Let me just toss this out, and don't even think I know how to do it, but if anyone wanted to start a Go Fund Me (I think that is what it is called) to provide some assistance to Dan and Joanna I would most assuredly step up to the plate on that kind of donation. I spoke to both of them over the years of my association with this board and their exceptionally fine magazine and found them both to be an absolute pleasure to speak with. I hate this for them.
