MM used to be a member here a long, long time ago. He posted occasionally. I remember a particular post he made. I would like to go back and try to find it but cannot remember what his member name was.

Does any old-timer here remember how he was listed as a member?

Thanks in advance, SRH

David Trevallion (Crossed Chisels) might remember. I'll ask him.

One of my favorite gun writers. He told it as he saw it.

I always enjoyed MM, right up until he wrote an article in Shooting Sportsman attempting to make the argument that choke is obsolete. We discussed the article on this forum and he quit posting here. There were a very few, myself included, that disagreed with his radical "premise".

I also enjoyed his writing and bought his books. I stopped buying his books when I learned that he supported bans on semi-automatic rifles. As they say, the 2nd Amendment ain't about duck hunting.

Perhaps the dumbest thing any gun owner could do is to accept or assist the Fudd's and the incredibly stupid gun owners who stab us in the back by supporting anti-gunners or anti-2nd Amendment legislation.

Voting for anti-gun Democrats is dumber than giving treats to a dog that shits on a Persian Rug

I was one of the “disagreers”, Stan. It was basically nonsense, especially coming from someone with his bonafides.

MM was obviously a troubled man in his later years, and that’s not my opinion only but also of others who knew him well. He was a brilliant writer, regardless, but as the years passed by, I found his work to be less and less interesting and enjoyable. That may have been as much on me as as it was on him…

Some of his writing is top notch. I met him years ago at one of the first Vintager events and he was personable, but agree he had his faults. Not sure who gets the most credit, but his book with Mr. Trevallion is excellent.

Michael was a very talented writer. But he also had some pretty nasty demons. He and I were born about the same time down in Iowa. He lived in a small corner of SE Iowa which happened to be the last part of the state that the DNR opened to pheasant hunting. I remember him writing about how they had to head north to go pheasant hunting. I grew up in Waterloo. All we had to do was make sure we were outside the city limits.

He had a lot of opinions I disagree with, but he was not bashful in expressing them and I admired that.

My current favorite gun/outdoor writer is Craig Boddington. Met him a few weeks ago at DSC and what a nice guy on top of everything else
