Having sampled a buck from a coworkers farm on the Indiana/Kentucky border, I can say I have no interest in eating a north eastern Minnesota swamp buck, ever again. I want nothing to do with the extended, intensive metro area Canada goose hunt, because the geese have access to golf courses, and taste like whatever they are using to kill the weeds, the bugs, or the snails in the water features. I hear tell the Canadas coming out of Manitoba are better, but, we don’t get those, locally. The snows filter down a bit, and are wonderful.
A bear is likely no different. I was told, many years ago, that bears prefer vegetable, seeds and fruit, and turn to meat when that food becomes harder to find. I know you will be in competition with bears when the blueberry and raspberries come ripe in the BWCA.
It looks delicious.
Best,
Ted
