Agree with Ted. Side clips but very basic. Verney Caron top key. I'd hazard that "F8Cie" should be "F & Cie" (Cie = "company). No telling who this might be. The choke stamp is very basic.. .just "Rectifie" (no "choke") and P.D. who will be the barrel honer. No idea who this might be. Agree on the restock - full pistol grip rather than the French half-grip. 65mm chambers (2 1/2") = post 1924.
Thank you!
The bores are bright and shiny with no rust or pitting, I should have taken a pic of them. Its a nice tight gun, and everything functions as it should. I have not shot it. I do have some 2" 12ga 7/8oz #8 plastic hull shells from RST, can they be shot in this gun? Does a gun like this have any value?
It isn’t worth much, monetarily. I hazard a guess of $500, or, less. That said, if it gets you started in a pastime of hunting birds/shooting, perhaps on the road to some elementary gun maintenance or gun smithing skills (the stock screams for some better fitting and simple checkering, that could be learned and practiced) it could have a bit deeper worth. I’m often shocked at how the members of this board have developed quite sophisticated gunsmithing skills while being employed at something else.
You can use 2” and 2 1/2” ammunition, safely. There is a better than good chance someone already let the chambers out to 2 3/4”. You can have them measured. If the gunsmith gives you the OK, I wouldn’t hesitate to do it myself and use light 2 3/4” ammunition. Wall thickness on French guns is usually thicker than other guns out of Europe.
Good luck. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, here.
Best,
Ted
