[align:left][/align] we are traveling to Turkey and wanted to know if one can visit the gun shop in Huglu and Akkar in Istanbul as we used to do in the U. K. Possible to bring a double barrel back to the United States without all the hoopla. Thanks in advance Pat

Visiting the shops on a holiday in Turkey is likely possible. But, if you live here, that isn’t how importation works, in the US. It is a bit more involved than that. The big question is, where do you call home, now? That will determine what your options are on bringing a gun home.
Best, Ted

Possible to bring a double barrel back to the United States without all the hoopla. Thanks in advance Pat It's nice to dream, but I'd say the days of easily transporting a personal firearm purchased abroad are over. Shortly after the creation of the TSA, I took my parents to the airport for a trip to California. My Mom's bag was pulled from check-in because a brick sized blob showed up on the X-rays. They demanded the key to unlock and inspect the bag. The "blob" was a gift-wrapped package, and she told them what it was. But they demanded that she unwrap it, since it "could have been explosives". It was a box of chocolates. The TSA people didn't like my remark that it wasn't elderly people of my parent's ethnicity that destroyed the World Trade Center. I pointed to a family of Arabs going through Check-in, and said, 'There's who you need to search!" At that, they told me I needed to move away from their kiosk. I doubt if they would be amused by you attempting to bring a shotgun through baggage claim or pick-up.

I love in Nevada. I always enjoy buying local and bring back doubles never had a problem. Many Hammer guns and were considered antiques esp if they were Damascus. I doubt they accept that on a dandy sc's with Circassian timber I'll check with our local custom officer at our airport

If you have a mind to, you can do it yourself. I believe Argo has.
I wasn’t prepared this AM for a dose of disgust this large. Keith never disappoints.
Out there doing it best I can.

I would serious doubt that you will be able to walk into one of the big Turkish factories and buy one gun. Maybe at a local gun shop but they may not be able to sell to you or want to deal with Turkish export laws if they have any.
For a gun that is considered modern you need a approved form 6.

JOhn Quality Arms You also need to have the appropriate FFL licence specific to import/export.

Argo chronicled his importation efforts. There are/were provisions for individuals to import a shotgun on their own.
If a person were interested in doing so, and wasn’t stationed in Turkey, it would behoove the prospective importer to study the chain of custody requirements for an individual import. The area that provokes greatest anxiety for me, is what happens to the firearm after it is handed to the freight forwarder. Sometimes these activities seem to go dark for great lengths of time provoking anxiety.
There are American retail gun companies importing from Turkish manufacturing companies that do enough business that for a fee, your custom gun could probably hitch a ride stateside.
I highly recommend searching for, and then reading Argo’s story.
Out there doing it best I can.

I wasn’t prepared this AM for a dose of disgust this large. Keith never disappoints. CZ, were you disgusted by my comment about the TSA profiling and harassing elderly Caucasian folks after the 9-11 terrorist attacks, instead of people who more closely fit the active threat parameters? Or were you disgusted by my post in the "How Did This Happen?" Thread, where I provided proof that you are guilty of hypocritically posting non-Double Gun content, and then later complaining that stuff doesn't belong here? Just trying to get clarity on what disgusts you... so I can continue to never disappoint you. I also hope Gitano (the OP) reports back to let us know what the Customs officers at his local airport have to say about "bringing a double barrel back to the United States without all the hoopla." I think there will be some very real hoopla involved. If it was a cheap and easy thing to do, I'd think that CZ the Grey Man would travel without any guns when going to the UK to hunt grouse and driven pheasants. Just buy one or more of those really nice, but crazy cheap, British doubles when he arrives, take them hunting, and then bring them home, without hoopla. Maybe even sell them here after returning home, to finance the cost of the trip. Just remember to pay Dave the $12.00 fee for selling items here! Some seem to forget that part.
