[align:left][/align] we are traveling to Turkey and wanted to know if one can visit the gun shop in Huglu and Akkar in Istanbul as we used to do in the U. K. Possible to bring a double barrel back to the United States without all the hoopla. Thanks in advance Pat
It's nice to dream, but I'd say the days of easily transporting a personal firearm purchased abroad are over.
Shortly after the creation of the TSA, I took my parents to the airport for a trip to California. My Mom's bag was pulled from check-in because a brick sized blob showed up on the X-rays. They demanded the key to unlock and inspect the bag. The "blob" was a gift-wrapped package, and she told them what it was. But they demanded that she unwrap it, since it "could have been explosives". It was a box of chocolates.
The TSA people didn't like my remark that it wasn't elderly people of my parent's ethnicity that destroyed the World Trade Center. I pointed to a family of Arabs going through Check-in, and said, 'There's who you need to search!"
At that, they told me I needed to move away from their kiosk. I doubt if they would be amused by you attempting to bring a shotgun through baggage claim or pick-up.
