Lastly, I uploaded a photo to the Imgur of the top of the right barrel where "Anschutz - Arrieta" is engraved.

'N o' is not the date of proof code. The date code is on the barrel flats - remove the FE and dismount the barrels

The gun appears to be an Anschutz import, either from Spain to Germany, or, a country in Europe that was served by Anschutz. Anschutz also imported Berettas to Germany, back in the day.

As pointed out earlier, the sling swivels, sling, and the cheekpiece are hard evidence the gun was built to European ideas, and actually detract value here in the new world. Which, is not to say nobody here would be interested in a decent condition Spanish sidelock ejector. That appears to be a very good quality gun, it might have gold washed lock work, the internals might be gold plated to help avoid corrosion, typically an indicator of a higher quality gun.

Someone pointed out that you should go shoot it. Capital idea, I’d say, most people don’t have anything tangible to connect them to their great grandpa, especially something as nice as that.

Glad your family gave you a nice gun. You will enjoy it. The pattern is not he same as the 873. The 873 had more engraving and was executed differently. It was more refined. As far as the gold washed lock work Arrieta did this at one time on some of the older models. Even when they quit doing this you could for an additional charge they would do this on any model gun. I did not see if you mentioned if this had the assisted opening feature. This feature was somewhat standard on most of the higher grade models with a couple of exceptions. If the gun came standard on a model, you could have Arrieta delete it from the model and save a fair amount of money. If the arrieta model did not come with it as standard, it could be added to a non assisted model for an added charge.

As mentioned above the cheek piece and the sling swivels are out of fashion.

I feel Mr. Roberts is optimist of the value at $4500

Nice shotgun. If I had to guess at a model I would say a model 550 "Field". If you can provide clear pictures of the barrel flats and the bottom of the barrels just in front of the barrel flats we could likely tell you the year it was proofed at the Eibar proof house. Value is whatever it brings when sold and depends on how long you are willing to wait for a buyer. If I were selling it I'd price it at $800 - $900 to sell in a month, $1900 to sell within a year, and offer it at $3000 if was willing to wait for a deep pocket and willing buyer.

I was afraid I had been overly generous on that value after I had posted it. Wild Turkey 101 can do that, but $800-$900 sounds pretty hard.

It's been my experience that how much one can get for a nice shotgun is strongly influenced by how fast the seller wants to sell the item. And Ted is right on target with his comment that doubles are not the hot items they were a decade ago. I'm watching a nice Arrieta 12 gauge on Gun Broker that is currently at about $750 with seven days to go until the auction closes. I'm also watching a 20 gauge DIARM/Sarriugarte sidelock that is at about $400 with seven days until the auction closes. Both would tempt me at under a $1,000, nether at more than that.

All that said I think the present owner could realize somewhere around $3000 for the gun if he was able and willing to wait for the right buyer.

However, my observation is that 12 gauge doubles are the drug on the market at the moment. Make them 16’s, 20’s, 28’s or .410’s and things get weird. Regardless of the gun maker.
