Really great bronze. I still regret not buying a similar one in Budapest in 1998. Who made it, cast it? It's a work of art. The Malachite base (or is it green marble?) is also cool.

I took all of my cast English Pointers and cut off their tails short. Now they're all German Wirehairs, my favorite bird machine.

Thanks FCF. I wasn't in the 4Runner when it happened. Got the police report for insurance. She said it was a huge buck. It was an elk. Sorry Stan. I'll do better next time

Did you happen to get that at Bulldogs in Rio Rancho? He had one before Christmas and I dont think it was there on Saturday when I stopped in.

I hope it was a doe pregnant with triplets. I'm sorry, I don't hate the things, 'cause God created them. But . . . . . I despise them a lot.

And to think that at one time whitetails were relatively rare in the US. We had very few deer and no season in Iowa when I was growing up. Now it's a destination state for those looking for trophy bucks. Wooded property in some parts of the state is now worth more than tillable ground. Owners selling the property to nonresident hunters or else leasing hunting rights. Previously, farmers appreciated the local deer hunters showing up to reduce the population. Now a lot of them find it difficult to find private ground on which to hunt without paying.

The problem with out of state hunters who want to lease land to hunt deer is that they won't shoot does, or small bucks for that matter. All they want is a shot at a "trophy". They're mostly good people, their needs just don't jive with the farmers' needs. Killing them by the scores on depredation permits at night in the summer heat is no fun, no fun at all.

In my area we have to put in for either a buck or an antlerless tag. Friends can’t understand why I’d put in for an antlerless. Simple. The odds of drawing were better as were the odds of getting permission from a farmer/rancher.
