I need someone familiar with Ruger doubles to diagnose and/or fix a problem with reassembling my Gold Label. Probably it's just my problem (82 year old hands and lack of familarity with the gun) but they aren't making these any more and I want to pass it along to a relative in good shooting condition. So I'm wiling to pay a pro to do it right'....

Any one know a 'smith that cold/would have a look? It'd need to be in the Orange County/southern LA County areas.

If you do, I'd appreciate a name and number here or by text to (518) 429-5589.

Try Bob Day at R&D Custom Barrel in Pico Rivera, 310-283-0046

Or Bill Skinner in Temple City, 626-222-8818

Or Lucio Sosta in Azuza, 626-969-8989

Bob, Bill, and Lucio are the smiths that Pacific Sporting Arms uses for their customers. I have had work done by all three with good results.

You could also try Lazlo Lukacs in North County San Diego, 760-231-9358. Or Bolsa Gunsmithing in Huntington Beach.

FWIW, I have a Red Label Sporting O/U with a sticking safety problem. Had it worked on locally, and the verdict was that fixing it required a proprietary tool or fixture that only Ruger has. Called Ruger, they confirmed that. Reassembly issues on your Gold Label may not be your fault.

Several years ago I had the pleasure of standing over the shoulder of Freddy Bruner (Escondido) as he built and tempered a top lever leaf spring which had cracked during a hot dove shoot on my great grandfather's Parker. It was amazing watching a master at work.

He trained in Europe, and ran the bench at Pachmayr in Los Angeles for many years. Unfortunately, I'm sure Mr. Bruner has hung up his apron.
