Hi all,
Last February I got drawn into playing of the Jagdhorn (the Furst-Pless version) with a local German hunters group that do weekly training sessions, they then do play "Das letzte Halali" (the end of hunting at hunters funerals) / Hubertus celebrations and Xmas markets where the hunting group sells game meat sausages / salami or other concoctions. It is also played after driven or organised hunts where the game is laid out with the "last bite" rite similar to your game poles. Now I am in a second group also and have just aquired the loden jacket & vest for me to match up with the rest of the group.
I am just wondering if this playing is done in the USA / Canada at all?
Socially for me it is very fulfilling.

Glad you're enjoying your participation in that. Doubtless it will help show those who straddle the fence between anti-hunting and acceptance of game hunting that we are not all unfeeling, bloodthirsty boors.

OBTW, it's CHRISTmas here, not Xmas.

May God bless America and those who defend her.

bavarianbrit,
You bring back a lot of memories, some sad but most happy. The horns are also used to signal directions to hunters in the field.
