I own a Browning B25 B1 (1970,s gun)with the action finished in a grey metal colour. Despite hardly been used, the action appears to be discoloured in sections or blotches. I get the impression that it had a plastic coating that is peeling off in sections. Is this accurate? If so, how do I remove the rest of the coating to have a uniform shading? Or any other ideas what this could be? My other Browning, a 1960's gun which I use often, does not have the same problem.
Thanks, Charls.

Try a Birchwood Casey lead ray on it. I had a problem with a nitrided K-80 and this product solved my problem instantly. The maker says it also brightens nickel.

B25 and plastic coating in 1970? Very doubt.
Probably French Grey finish with bakelite laquer over it. Laquer got slightly yelowish color and lasts for decades of hard use, ~30 years sounds about right.

. I don't understand. Please explain. I've had problems with nitrided finish on a Merkel.

Sorry, as usual my hands are way behind my head and I seldom proof my typeing. It should read Birchwood Casey Lead Rag. They are avaible from Brownells for $3.50. The lead Kreighoff gunsmith showed me the trick and it was like instant happy. Just use it like a silver polishing cloth.
