A few of our members are from that area, which, has been severely impacted by Helene. I’m hoping they are OK, but, we won’t know as just about all forms of communication, not to mention the interstates in and out, are cut off. I saw reports of 30” of rain, that will be disastrous no matter where it happens.
It appears that area will be impacted by this event for years to come.
Best, Ted

Reports from board members in Georgia are not good either. Best of luck in the recovery. We had 21" of rain in 5 days 11 years ago, it took several years to rebuild the infrastructure. Steve

I had the same thought this morning, Ted. I’m in upstate SC and was lucky - loss of power for a few hours and 11” of rain in 2 days. I’n atop a hill so I was okay. The mountains are devastated. Some communities are completely cut off. They’re airlifting supplies as these communities have no power, water or cell service to even call for help. I-40 is closed in a few locations including the NC/TN state line where two lanes of the interstate eroded into the roaring-from-runoff Pigeon River. I-26 is closed in numerous locations from bridge failures and mudslides. This area will be impacted for decades. Prayers for our board members in the area and for all who are suffering after this monster storm.
BTW - I’ve heard from Stan Hillis. He has no power and has damage to his farm, but he and his family are okay and their homes intact.

I have family in Asheville. No power, supplies dwindling, infrastructure damaged. Power may not be back for weeks. Internet down.

Not just NC. Geo in Valdosta has a 40" pine for a bedroom ceiling and is camping in house learning more than he cares about operating a noisy generator. Otherwise he and family are fine. My wife's hometown in middle Georgia has severe damage. Gil

But it is much better than not having one at all. I really need to find the time to convert one to run on natural gas for long term outages, because Mother Nature never quits. Didn't Geo suffer some bad storm damage just a few years ago, and also had a dog killed by a fallen tree?

There were 634,000 meters without power in GA yesterday morning. I've never seen such devastation. Tens of thousands of big trees downed. And now, we hear there's another one on the way and projected to take the same path. And it's just September. Hurricane season doesn't end until about November.
May God bless America and those who defend her.
