On a trigger plate Dickinson, is it necessary to reassemble the gun to test the trigger weights after honing the sears, or can you test with the trigger plate assembly out of the gun? I would think you could test with it out but haven't disassembled it yet.

7lbs front and 5lbs 1oz rear is a bit much for a 5lb 9 oz gun.

Thanks,
Bill

Even though I've had my Dickinson triggers done I can't answer your question, Bill. I was scared of those tiny screw slots and sent mine to Phillip Crenwelge for the trigger job.

I took your advice on my 1st Dickinson and sent it to Phillip. They came out great. I messaged him at the beginning of the week and haven’t heard back. If I don’t hear back this coming week, I was getting my ducks in a row to do it myself.

I’m having fun shooting skeet with the 410 but that front trigger is a problem.

I appreciate the response Stan!!

Cabela's loaned me an Estate, and I had the same issue with the triggers. I took it to a gunsmith who specializes in sxs. His opinion was that he wouldn't want to try to lighten the pulls very much. Seemed like a nice enough gun other than that issue.

Thanks for the reply Larry.
I had triggers lightened on another Estate a couple of years ago by Phillip in TX. They came in at 3-3/4 and 4-1/4. I was thrilled.
Del Whitman said he could do them in December. He is only a couple of hours from me. I will probably just wait. I have a couple of others that need to be dusted off and shot anyway.
I was just toying with the idea of doing them myself.

Thanks,
Bill

Phillip is worth waiting for, for me anyway. I think Paul Melton may have told me Phillip is in big demand by trap shooters, and participates in trap competition himself, and that he is away some because of those tournaments. Maybe that's this time of year??

Mine came in at about the same poundage as Bill's. I couldn't be happier. I'm going to do a sanded-in refinish on the wood on mine this winter. That should really make the figure "pop" on it.

Phillip is one of the gunsmiths I have had very good success dealing with. Dean Harris is another. Both very capable and genuine gentlemen.

Not to be thought of as bragging I have had terrible experiences with two others, both highly respected in "our community". Through the years if I've learned anything about dealing with specializing gunsmiths it's to form my opinions based on my experience alone, not anyone else's.
