I am sure that if any high grade Flues made or modified guns show up that they will be judged on their own merits and not what some one with an "ax to grind" has to say about them.Witness the "Csars Parker".The "boys with the bucks" will decide their value if any ever show up for sale at auction.Internet gossip and innuendo won't count for anything.

I haven't purchased Jerry Swinney's work...yet. Is there a lot of Emil Flues information contained in that work? Murphy

Yeah, it was kind of sad that in the end, Jerry knew he didn't have time to copy my NYS files while he allowed me to copy his. While I was copying though, Larry Schuknecht made a recorded interview while he quizzed him in great detail about the doublegun makers. When Jerry's files are contrasted to mine, not only is the style different, it becomes evident how far away from definitive both works are. Where Swinney focused on geneological detail, I went for total number of entries. A semi-complete chronicle of NYS makers has yet to be complied, and may not happen in my lifetime. There where so many New York state gunmakers and gunsmiths that even Swinney's work and mine together probably wouldn't cover 30%. There is still room for another generation of future researchers/compilers . Which reminds me...I should probably get back to work...

Hunting and Fishing Magazine, November 1930, classified section. "Reward.....Stolen, 12 gauge shotgun, 28 inch barrels: E.F. Flues, Maker: action engraved: gold mountings. Edw. Flues, 40 W. Watts Street, Portland, Oregon." Was Edward Flues Emil's son, father, brother?

I believe that is a younger brother, Edwin, though I could be mistaken. His father's name was Franz. I do not believe Emil ever had children.

In 1930 Edwin had a 14 year old daughter, Wave and was working as a Filer in a Lumber Mill.

Raimey,
he took special pride in producing master works of art (engraved by Kornbrath) that he sent to family members who resided mainly on the west coast. One by one, all were stolen eventually...and that's probably why we don't see many to this day...
Many of his master works are sidelocks though not all....it seems that there is just something about Kornbrath engraved guns that drives people to do unethical things that they wouldn't ordinarily do
