Hey all, well our grouse opener was today It wasn't the best for us. My two son's and myself only got three. The morning started out cool, low wind and very wet. We had fog that left a very wet prairie. We saw some in the short cover that flushed wild. We has better luck as it dried out some. My son Will managed two and I got one. It got pretty hot by afternoon that took its toll on man and beast Our GSP Addie did very well, very happy with her. My son Will's wife Kait and their son Willy came with. So, this was my grandsons first time out hunting I used my 16b John Wilkes and Will his BSS 2oga Best Regards Greg ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/fLKNds2f/image0.jpg)

Hey all, was only able to hunt for a couple hours after Mass, got a big family dinner today. Did manage a single, my son Will jumped a bunch but, didn't connect. Got pretty hot, and Addie was showing it. Used my 16b Charles Hellis today Stay well my friends Greg ![[Linked Image from i.postimg.cc]](https://i.postimg.cc/J418BzJy/20240915-124846.jpg)

Just got back from a week long hunt chasing prairie grouse. Long distance walking behind an 18 month old English setter and an 10 year old French Brittany. My 11 year setter Jack stayed home this go around. 12 to 14 hour truck rides? Ya, he’d rather be at home sprawled out on his cushy pillow these days. He still hunts hard, but he’s pretty selective these days on long distance trips. My dad who’s 78, flew up from San Antonio to accompany me on this trip. He hasn’t hunted prairie grouse with me since 2016. He told me the combo of altitude, distances we were covering and the pace we were moving at to keep up with the dogs was a bit too much. He surprised me how he was able to keep up this go around. He was a real trooper, he matched me step for step. We only hunted the early morning because of the heat that would show up by mid morning was too much for the dogs. No need to push it. The country: ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/3S7dSF5/IMG-4011.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/sFRwYGK/IMG-1013.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/9g9WpMW/IMG-4010.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/XsyMRBC/IMG-1012.jpg) Hunting: ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/DRncJjH/IMG-4058.jpg) ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/qB52BwD/IMG-4065.jpg) Dad even knocked a bird down, using my 20 bore 5 lb 10 oz Franchi 48AL, his first hunt with it and he loved it: ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/VNhhTCW/IMG-1019.jpg) Me with a double I took over a beautiful find and point by my French Britt, Ranger. He put on 12 miles in this field. About 45 min into this walk, he finally hits scents and locks up solid. We walk in….and a triple flushes at about 30 yrds, dad missed, I doubled. They were literally the only birds we saw in the field. No bumped birds, no wild flushes, etc…Pretty unusual, but it happens. ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/5GZt2Jt/IMG-4037.jpg) The final step: ![[Linked Image from i.ibb.co]](https://i.ibb.co/yVzh949/IMG-1045.jpg)

Dustin, I look forward to your photos each year. They are always just excellent. Thanks!
Beautiful country. Your Dad looks very healthy for 78.
May God bless America and those who defend her.

Beautiful country. Your Dad looks very healthy for 78. I’m glad you enjoy the pics, Stan. I enjoy seeing pics others have posted as well, especially ones where the pics show the type of habitat and scenery they are hunting. Dad is a pretty healthy & still fairly active fella. He’s great company! Always fun to have around and “talk story”. It was very special that he wanted to come up and walk the grass with me again this year.
