Yeah, Kettner's sorry tail probably sent it to A. Francotte & then had his mechanics mask the AF stamp. I would not doubt it @ all. Actually, that is more than likely the truth.

Merkel(any of them) & Kettner were tied @ the hip. So if Kettner was retailing an upper rung sporting weapon, it was more than likely sourced from a Merkel source; almost synonymous..... Now Kettner did have a flock of mechanics and their specialty was probably maskin'....... But almost like the Kettner - Merkel connection, Kettner and A. Francotte were very chummy..... I guess the ledger is the only way to sort it...

Just as a side-note: ![[Linked Image from i.imgur.com]](https://i.imgur.com/6GdX8bq.jpeg) This one wears the Purdey Verschluß - Purdey Nose / „Fermeture Liègeoise“ - >>Galand Nose<< and I do not think is considered a Pigeon Gun. The other has the Greener crossbolt and is advertised as a Pigeon gun/Taubenflinte. Serbus, Raimey rse

Another stamp of interest is found atop the tubes: >> ?? Francotte - Brevete A Liège<<

I forgot to mention that from a polling of sources, the majority points to Oskar Merkel as the culprit mechanic that Kettner sourced. Not sure of how the Kettner-Oskar Merkel - Sauer - Francotte all gets sorted.

I noted the block letters in NITRO, but put them with the re-proof in 1938 rather than the original proof. Mike

Looked like Francotte stamped his on flats after original German proofs, but know way to be sure. Also horn trigger guard looks like a replacement. It’s too block like, my other kettners are the normal nice rounded looking type.
