I picked up this Greener hammergun and am waiting until tomorrow to take it to the sporting clays range and shoot it. It is tight and clean from top to bottom, with an original leather case…

Great find; well done. Looks a bit like a trap gun. Just can't quite read the inscription on the oval on the top rib nearest the breech. Does it read Patent Ejector? Lagopus.....

Pinky and Improved Pinky?

Beautiful shotgun! I hope it shoots as nice as it looks.

I think the barrels are 3 Iron British Best but if you would post a close up of about 8" of barrel with the most contrast could confirm.
We might be able to provide more insight with a full size close up of the barrel flats and just forward of the flats.

I am familiar with Greener's Treble Wedge Fast patent but are my eyes deceiving me or does that rib read Treble Edge Fact? An illiterate engraver?

LGF - I read it the same way and had the same thought. I thought I was the one who had trouble understanding the Birmingham accent.

I read it the same way. Not only is literacy an issue today, it appears to have been an issue then.

1868 - 1875 proof marks, but for some reason the gauge is not stamped. No reproof.

Took it out shooting today. It worked well. I had Steven Hughes measure the chokes and drop. Chokes are both full, drop at 2” at the heel and LOP of 14 1/2”…

Fooled me too. I could just read the bit starting with an 'E' and wondered 'Ejector'. I once had a Thomas Wild gun that had escaped the nominal bore mark. An oversight at the Proof House but it meant the gun was not actually 'in proof' as there was no way of determining whether or not it was. I had it re-proofed no problem. The Proof House did make mistakes but I doubt they would admit it. Still, they may test hundreds of guns a week. Lagopus.....

It's a beauty. Interesting, the stock dimensions. I agree with lagopus that it must've been a trap gun.

I hadn't considered that, but Full/Full with a 14 1/2 inch LOP, it certainly could be...

Lovely shotgun that looks even better on my workbench~~
...and it is marked "Treble Edge Fact" near as we could tell.
A mystery to me?
I was impressed with everything about the gun and almost wish I was still writing for SSM.
The stock work and checkering are as nice as the lovely hammers and fences!
The gun has probably been re-done with expert workmanship. Barrels certainly re-browned. completely

I own the twin of that gun made in 1879. Graham Greener described it as a 40 guinea grade. The top grade of hammergun. I've owned and shot mine for about 25 years. Lovely guns.
