I just became the current custodian of an Ithaca SxS with very nice damascus barrels. Unfortunately, someone with a heavy hand buffed the receiver and finished it in a very bright blue which appears totally out of place.
The serial number on the gun is 143715, which places it somewhere between the Crass models and the Flues models according to the chart which I have. My chart lists 1903 Crass models as starting at 94108 and then jumps to 1908 Flues models starting at 175000.
Anyone have a guess (or solid information)as to what I have and when it was manufactured? Also, what would be a more appropriate finish for the receiver and who should I send it to. The gun appears to be very solid with good wood and everything original except the receiver finish. I would be willing to put a few dollars into making it look a bit less plastic and maybe rebrowning the damascus.
