I thought Trump would select Glenn Youngkin from Va. He's amazingly smart and can flat out talk. Thought that would give Trump a better chance to take Va and open up another path to defeat Biden. Vance doesn't give Trump anything he didn't already have. Youngkin is very appealing. He is also about 6 foot 7" and that looks great on the stage.
Youngkin is a good guy, but he doesn't measure up to J D Vance as a loyal Trump man. Love a guy as VP who has previous military experience, especially in The Marines.

Not sure I agree. What Vance said about Trump years ago will be in lots of Democratic campaign adds. Youngkin doesn't have that issue and he targets the suburban housewife demographic in a big way.
From what I know about Youngkin, he probably would have made a fine choice, including the reasons tut gives. Trump had a very tough choice for his VP pick, because he had a lot of qualified people to choose from.
However, don't think for a moment that the Democrats wouldn't be frantically digging for dirt to trash Youngkin too. And if they couldn't find anything, they would lie, or contort and twist something he said anyway. Vance was quite a bit younger, and didn't know Trump when he made those past remarks... which were based largely upon what Trump's detractors said about him. He learned, and acknowledges all that. As for Democrats using those intemperate remarks in campaign ads, the Trump campaign could easily counter with similar ads showing Kamala Harris' remarks about Biden being a segregationist, and that she believed Biden's accusers on his sexual assaults of women.
Or how about the statements from Obama's Defense Secretary Bob Gates, and many others, that Joe Biden has been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy issue for his entire career? In 3 1/2 short years we have several hundred thousand dead people in Afghanistan, Ukraine, Israel, and the Gaza Strip to back up that statement.
Another really good one would be the statement Barack Obama made about Biden in 2020... "Don't underestimate Joe's ability to f*ck things up".
Of course, we all have heard Democrats saying we need to tone down rhetoric and personal attacks like that. They couldn't keep that pledge for 24 hours, and their mud slinging will only get worse as time goes on. We were all told that Biden would heal and unite the Nation in 2020, and we continue to see the polar opposite. I've watched and listened to a lot of the speeches so far from the Republican National Convention, and the contrast couldn't be greater. The Trump/Vance agenda will never make all people happy, because we have a large number of people who think this Nation was never any good. Joe Biden is their vehicle to burn it all down and remake it into something the Founders and the Framers of the Constitution couldn't imagine in their worst nightmares.
