The fantastic adornment on Mr. Wes Fink's O/U was by the very talented hand of Gottlieb Ortlepp.

Mr. Fink was keenly interesting in knowing the origin of the top rib of these Money Making Smoke Poles....

I have blamed Franz Adamy, possibly incorrectly, for applying the >>F.A.<< as he may have just been a business partner of Albert Adamy. So there are a few other F.A. mechanics with
Franz Amthor leading the pack.

Fritz Albrecht of Albrechts but I think he & his son Rudolf were more into scope mounts & sights.

Franz Anschütz, Fritz Anschütz, both of Suhl and knowing Franz Adamy was the owner of Undo Anschütz, then there may have been sourcing along family lines????

On another note, August Heinrich Ansorg of Z-M & Otto Anschütz of Z-M were both barrel drawers or tube mechanics.

Another Sauer Täubenflinte surfaced in Germany with SN # 256030, not many numbers away....

The positioning, spacing and execution of those mysterious holes does not look like the typical work of “Bubba”.

My guess is that they were to secure a fixture for a disabled shooter who had lost part or all of his left hand.

As to the inscription >>Der Führer<< on the PistolGrip Cap as it translates as “the Leader” might it gave started out as a First Prize in a competitive shoot?

I think the explanation is relatively simple: the thicker fore-end was common to avoid burning your fingers when firing higher numbers and the holes were there to dissipate some of the heat from the barrels. As a side effect, the fingers stayed warm in winter....
