Of course one can work on the wood instead.
Glueing on a wooden rib is a quick and cheap fix, and it is easily undone.
There are some limits to altering the buttstock, it is permanent, and probably will not "look good".

Frankly I am appalled by that red buttplate. I think this fits a British rifle but not a Germanic shotgun. And why not dress it down to the buttstock?
This certainly changes the balance of the gun. I presume the holes in the forend are for lead weights. I'd rather have glued a strip of lead to the bottom rib, also easily undone.
