This little lively wand by Sebastain / Boštjan Borovnik Ferlach in 12 bore from 1946 of the British Period being just under 6 1/2 lbs arrived @ a local gunshop today.

Quite thin looking at the top of the frame??

Pins instead of Screws during the British Period, which is very very odd any other time.

>>Galand Nose<< or „Fermeture Liègeoise“(or Purdey Nose).

Very unique, and I for one would say rare, Ferlacher by Boštjan Borovnik. When the Germans invaded Austria in the Spring of 1938(March I think), they tried to force Ferlach makers to hire German mechanics. Boštjan Borovnik refused & refused being loyal to his roots and he received beating after beating until 1942 when the occupying Germans decided that Boštjan Borovnik wasn't going to break so they rounded up he, his son & to other kids along with his wife & sent them to a Work Camp. The occupying Brits released him in early 1945 and by July Boštjan Borovnik and his family was back in Ferlach where he, and his son, filed for reparations. His son was attending the Ferlacher Gunsmith School when they were rounded up & he filed and received some type of compenstation. Boštjan Borovnik lived till 1949 and this longarm was completed in 1946 for a British Officer, who would have purchased this @ a Collection / Selling Point in the centre of Ferlach.

I guess I should also show the straight-hand stock.

A lot of these >>British Period<< Ferlachers are coming out of the woods now. I guess the original custodian has passed & the family is just giving them up because of lack of desire & money??

The Gem swings very lively & like a wand but I just haven't had time to shoot it w/ all the stuff I have ongoing like bridge monitoring, rail projects and all the typical rest....

An old Borovnik advert for a „Scott“ platform and probably from the 1880s, 1890s??? although their client base was very slow to accept advances in technology. Choke boring & Londoner type pattern welded tubes @ an additional cost.

>>Nr. 115 Lancaster – Doppelschrotgewehr, System

Out with the old & in with the new as Borovnik is offering a very similar new & improved 20 bore.... Come one & come all Hunters & Foresters....

>>This is a Ludwig Borovnik side-by-side shotgun in 16-gauge. This shotgun features 28” Full choked barrels, nice wood stocks, 12½” & 13¾” LOP, bead front sight, and double triggers. The shotgun is in nice condition with the bluing slightly dull, but intact. The lockup is tight, the triggers are crisp, and the automatic safety is functional. Both bores are good with only minor plastic shot cup residue, no pitting or issues can be seen inside the bores. Stocks are in fairly good condition with some compression marks and hairline cracks behind the left side of the receiver & cheek piece as shown in photos #28 & #29. An aftermarket butt plate appears to have been fitted, and there are compressions at the toe as shown in photo #31. This was one of the first shotguns was built after the factory was restarted (Ludwig was beaten, and all members of the Borovnik family were deported to Germany on cattle wagons for his refusal to hire German technicians the new government demanded). The 40-102 serial number indicates it was the 102nd gun made by the Ludwig Borovnik factory, and 48-1391 indicates it was the 1391st gun proofed in 1948. A rare example of this classic side by side shotgun with an amazing backstory!<<

Not sure where this Cat obtained his info, maybe Jani, but he is spot on & very, very odd for a firearms merchant.

Although not given as a Bornvnik and a 12 bore which is out of the ordinary, this one purported from 1911 is similar & probably a next generation with Krupp Stahl tubes.

Here is where I lifted the foto. Interesting it is devoid of any adornment. And too it lacks the metal buttplate that makers & end users considered to be so versatile where the metal protected the wood, it could be used to bludgeon a wounded animal or to defend against chargin' animals when out of ammo and one really needs to fix bayonets.

Was fortunate enough to pick up yet another Boštjan Borovnik from 1947 during the British Period. 12-65mm with 72cm tubes and sort of a composed pair. Non-ejector, A&D Body Action secured by a Greener Crossbolt and straight - hand stock w/ Heel & Toe Plates.

The Step-Sister from 1946 also is an A&D Body Action but with ejectors and tubeset @ 28". LOP of about 36.5cm on Both. It has the Purdey Nose.

One similar stamp, is the British Assigned House Number but the one from 1946 is stamped >>40/32<< whilst the 1947 Step-Sister wears the stamp of >>40/33<<. I can't remember the significance. Of course the >>D<< on the datastring on the water-table still plagues me.
