Excerpt from 1887 S,D&G catalogue: http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=235930&page=15"Daly hammer guns are offered with the Scott action and Deeley and Edge forend latch. Extension rib and slight engraving on Model 401 for $70. Model 402 same as 401, but with Purdey double bolt at $80. Model 403 same as 402 but with 3 pin lock and more engraving at $90. Model 404 same as 403, but with Cluny Damascus , fine engraving, at $120. Model 405 , Diamond Quality, with Bernard or Turkish first quality barrels, exquisite engraving at $200." OK, someone refresh my memory on Cluny Damascus as I seem to have forgotten the pattern welded tube type. Cheers, Raimey rse

Ken, mine is a 12 gauge weighing 6 pounds 12 ounces. It is early, having the wedge fastener on the forend. Butt section of barrels also appear to me to be laminated, joined to more of a stub pattern forward.
The serial number on the buttplate is stamped on the outside. Buttplate, triggerplate, and triggerguard carry factory nickel plating.
John McCain is my war hero.

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.

Schilling ? From July 19, 1883 and repeated from 1882 that Daly does not use Schilling products.

![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/45/3b/tXJ3hrla_t.jpg) Daly Nr. 4??? Marc made a nice find on this Charles Daly on the Ferriss Patent that sold on E-Gun. ![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/d6/82/fyFySfJk_t.jpg) ![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/df/ec/VkjBpzGH_t.jpg) ![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/f4/c9/zOouD18a_t.jpg) ![[Linked Image from thumbs2.imgbox.com]](https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/d9/66/nJQqE91r_t.jpg) Lindner wasn't involved as he didn't have his Gunmaking Sheepskin just yet. Also, the tubeset has the initials >>PB<< & was part of a Scott Gesteck/Partskit.... Serbus, Raimey rse

Raimey: that gun has some sort of large scroll Damas Crolle The old thread re: Cluny has lost the images. Early SD&G catalogs listed the Lindner Dalys as having Cluny, Bernard, Turkish First Quality and Chine (Ferlacher Chine was also Turkish) Cluny is in France north of Lyon and not far from Geneva - more famous for Burgundy & Benedictines than gun making. There is also a Cluny Castle in Aberdeenshire. Cluny means "from the meadow" in Gaelic and is an old Irish boy's name Unfortunately I've never found documentation of a "Cluny" pattern...but some day the Damascus Pattern Rosetta Stone will be unearthed!

Too, I cannot say that they are Belgian sourced, possibly England? Depends on where Scott was sourcing their tubes?

A messy 2 Iron brother, and Ferlach made lots of damascus barrels Is that 'MV' on the L barrel? Likely the tube maker. ![[Linked Image from photos.smugmug.com]](https://photos.smugmug.com/Damascus/Ferlach-French/i-z6SsftJ/0/CLBjfgvrFcL8RBXxnvtm6mq32QJkpqgsSZvCrhxDN/L/P5070525_Ferlacher-L.jpg)
