Good of you to clarify your remarks in a calm and civil manner John. I was thinking the same thing when I saw Bob's newfound austerity measures when it comes to a relatively modest gun purchase.

I figured Bob has simply been adversely impacted like the rest of the country, by rampant inflation and Bidenomics. Our dollars have now lost at least 20% of their value since Biden took office. Bob, being a southern Kalifornia resident, has likely also had to contend with the insane policies of Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom. His business may have taken a big hit from the Covid19 lockdowns, oppressive new minimum wage laws, and increased competition from millions of Illegal Aliens. Californians are paying very high taxes to feed, clothe, educate, and provide free Health Care to Illegals too. Poor Bob also has to pay the highest gas prices in the nation, and needs to budget for mandated and costly Electric vehicles that may not even be able to be charged due to rolling electric power black-outs. And The Kalifornia Assoc. of Realtors says home prices in the state have fallen at least 7.1% since 2022, while mortgage rates have skyrocketed.

Now the CEO of McDonalds says they may have to cease operations in the state:

My Dickinson is choked .008" and .008", fixed chokes. And, I limit myself to 35 yard dove kills, max. Everything has to be right for me to stretch it to 35, and that's with 3/4 oz. loads. I've considered having the left barrel backbored to get a few more thou choke in it, but prolly won't 'cause I would hate to mess with the hard chrome lining. Thirty five yard "kills" will usually not be "dishrag dead" kills on doves, and they will often need "dispatching". Thirty yards and under are as dead as with a 20 gauge.

Pattern density is what kills birds, not bore size. A no. 8 out of a .410 at 1165 fps is exactly the same as one out of a 12 at that same velocity. But, when you decrease pattern diameter to gain density you increase the skill level necessary to put that smaller pattern on target. My FAIR Iside Tartaruga Gold .410 has a choke tube as tight as .034". That's super, super tight for a bore that small. I still like the Dickinson better, but I admit i wish it was choked a bit tighter.

Hey Stan. You might try a bag of Heper brand shot. It comes from Turkey and as of now tests as the hardest available bagged lead shot.

The 7 1/2 size is what this guy tested, but my results with size 9 have been very good.

I have found that our tastes in guns are similar, Bob. And you have always had excellent taste in what you do. They are not Model 21s (or Superposeds), but they are nice. Occasionally, people wander from home, so to speak, so whatever you decide, enjoy. And good luck.

I purchased my Dickinson Estate .410 for exactly the same reasons that the original poster and perhaps several others are considering . . . that is, not wanting to spend a whole lot of money on a gun you're not going to use all that much. That's what brought me to considering a Dickinson. At the time I purchased the gun from Cabela's/Green Bay about a decade ago they were retailing at $1599.00, but a friend purchased a 28ga. AyA #2 at the same time, so they gave us a package discount and knocked $300 off each of our purchases. Where else can you purchase a .410 SXS trigger plate gun built on a true .410 frame that carries a lifetime warranty having Southgate ejectors, platform lump brazed barrels, chrome lined bores, raised rib, double triggers, bone and charcoal case hardening and Turkish Walnut wood that's engraved with about 25% coverage and checkered in a 2-point pattern without spending many thousands of dollars? Mine weighs 5 lb. 6 oz. with a 14 3/4” LOP, 28" barrels, 3” chambers, choked M/M (.009/.009), <5 lb. trigger pulls and a manual safety. I didn't care for the original factory finish on the wood, so it was refinished with Tru Oil, the checkering pointed up and an initial oval was added. It's been a hoot to shoot and has met all my expectations.
