thank you for the reply. have dug out some spare hammers and hammer spring followers and do not see a way the make this hammer system a rebounding type. the gun i am having trouble with is a "put together" of barrels, receiver, forend iron to assemble a working gun -- almost. it does fire but it is a "knee knocker" to open after firing. have some 311/5100/fox B guns that will operate good when opening to reload. know a "put together" sxs of any brand is unlikely to work correctly when it has been assembled from random parts. will check my working sxs stevens and check out the cocking device on the barrel lump. have had advise the cocking forks that move the hammers might need attention but you advise will be looked and tried first. have lefever nitro specials and western arms sxs that have the same hammer and firing pin system but they work good on the guns i own. the rebounding hammers i have seen are on revolvers and the spring force is more centered on the hammer hinge pin. the stevens sxs hammer springs are below the hammer pin and see no way for it to be a rebounding hammer ect. will check my ww greener book and see if there are any drawings showing rebounding hammers for internal hammer sxs shotguns.
