I hunt what the land offers, ducks, deer and turkey. ...but most of my time is spent in the squirrel woods napping under my favorite tree.

Roosters mostly, but also sharpies, huns, blue grouse, bobwhites and the odd duck now and again. I think I'll try for my first turkey this year. I'm doing more and more hunting on one of the Indian reservations in SD, but also love montana and Kansas. All good fun. Oddly, I rarely get out the scattergun in my home state of CO other than for blue grouse. Steve

Chukar, quail and doves. I shot sand grouse and other birds in Namibia last year with my Merkel 12 and my Webley Scott 20. This year in Botswana while on plains game safari I had a few shots at guinea fowl with my PH's o/u. Not very sporting. they just don't like to fly. I'm taking two 20 ga. Huglu Bobwhites to Mexico next month for gambel quail.

Hunt pretty much what I can be successful on. Long ago that was bobwhite quail and rabbits and squirrels, then it was ruffed grouse and rabbits and squirrels, then lots of ducks and geese and some bobwhite and blue quail in Texas, on next move it was lots of ruffed grouse and a few turkeys in Virginia and West Virginia, next location was some ducks, lots of snipe, a few pheasants, a few grouse. Currently it is desert quail trips to AZ, ducks and a few geese along South Platte in Colorado high plains, some bandtails in mountains, some attempts at blue grouse in mountains. Missed group pheasant hunt this year in South Dakota because of medical issues.

I have always loved bird hunting of all kinds, in my younger days my parents farm in Texas was utilized for corn and peanuts and potholes were plentiful on our farm and neighboring farms. Everyone knew everyone and I had the run of anywhere I wanted to chase ducks and geese. Over the past twenty years the farms have all retired and the land of most has been bought, split and now in the name of progress are subdivisions and small residential plots. Our farm, although no longer a working farm other than a few cattle has reverted back to the wild. There are no longer the cries of geese overhead or the whistling wings of ducks to be found where once were abundant. We do have a limited number of quail. So last year I had a brain storm and started looking for a couple of pointers with the idea of training them myself and buying captive raised birds to release on our property instead of paying someone else. I have two german shorthairs now trained and ready to go. Were soon going to try our first release hunt with them and hopefully many memories will be born.

Mostly ducks and geese with my Parkers these days and a little squirrel shooting on the side. And yes, I do use a shotgun for that as well.
But I've used them for rabbit, pheasant, quail, snipe, rail, golden plover (in Scotland), woodpigeon (in England), crows, doves, and live pigeon shooting.
Over the next couple of seasons I hope to test them out on cranes and swan.
Just this past September I made a failed attempt at curlew in Northern Ireland. Spent several mornings on them and had a few shots but all were long and I didn't connect. May try that again next season as I've always wanted to be able to say I'd taken one.
