I am contracted this awful Disease!!! I Cant seem to break away from single shot Rifles & Double barrel shotguns!!! The Problem with it is Like sooo Many illnesses, The cure for the symptoms is Waaaaay out of my $$$ Financial ability & The Disease is incurable!!!!!!!!! I Blame my father & His best friend!!!! They Both collect guns, my father Ruger #1's & Dave collect's Remington Doubles. They both have other's but those are what they buy the most of! I Am sure that is where i got this Disease of Collecting Single shot rifles & Double Shotguns!! Now if I can just figure out who to blame my collecting Traditional bows & Handguns on I will be all set!!!!!!!!! anybody Know how to cure these afflictions?

I am simularly afflicted, but with a more malicious strain. I like cheap, beat up, but sturdy guns that others would shun, but I can't seem to own enough! It is ridiculous! They don't even have to be that sturdy cause I'll work on them if I can. I can't even remember why I bought my nice guns? My friends think I'm nuts and their wives fear me because they think I'll infect their husbands. I now have this itch for a C&R license! There is this double on Gunbroker now- starting bid $125. it's worth at least twice that and no one has bid and only 18 hours to go.........

I'm just at the intial stages of infection as I have not yet decided what my focus will be. I'm torn between french and belgian doubles and American doubles. I'm thinking to get a mod 21 and a parker trojan to start then an elsie, ithaca, lafever and fox. I know, how about American classics and exported europeans only. that may be it. Reads, A&F etc then the AM classics.

Hrenegade, let's see how bad it is, did you pick up either an English game gun or a Remington 1894? Did you for any reason see or handle a Lefever 'Automatic hammerless' if any of these apply then this affliction is grave very grave!!! All the best

Face it. If you're a collector your brain is wired differently from the average "joe". You may see things as functional, mechanical, historical or even dare I say it...a work of ART! Feel fortunate that your interests are in quality goods like Single Shot Rifles and Double Guns instead of beer cans and matchbook covers...at least you have taste. Also feel confident that if SS's and Dbls are your only addictions, such a limitation can be controlled, at least to the extent of your bank account. Some of us have multiple afflictions: Gunning Accessories; Vintage Hunting Photos; Shell Bags, Cases, Cleaning Rods, Boxes, etc; Decoys (which can match the cost of a vintage car)... need I continue? So the concept of too much stuff, too little time, and way too little money is a constant strain on the psyche. Go buy something...you'll feel better...for a little while anyway.

Ah but it is a fine and pleasant misery. I might add much more so than many other you could have contracted. Be joyful for you are blessed.

I've had the same disease as Hrenegade since I read James Grant's "Single Shot Rifles" series in the public library in Santa Rosa CA in 50(?) and then saw a neighbor's Elsie 16-bore in action on quail. A side-symptom in my case is a need for Colt New Service revolvers (got big paws)

Jeff:
The only sure way to beat this disease is to go "cold turkey" and separate yourself from all contact with double guns. Out of the goodness of my heart, I will volunteer to relieve you of all you current doubles AT NO CHARGE. Please let me know when to expect the shipment.
No thanks necessary,
Roy
