I may have posted previously about a friend having a heart attack and passing. I am trying to help the son evaluate some of the firearms so he can sell what he decides not to keep. He surprised me today telling me one of the doubles is a Husqvarna hammer gun with swastika stamps on the underside of the barrels. I haven't seen it yet and admit that is out of my area of expertise

Sorry about the loss of your friend. Can’t help you with the swastika stamps, but, best of luck moving the pieces on for the family.

You have a tough row to hoe.

Best,
Ted

Even the Navajo Indians used the symbol

This question just came up two weeks ago on a forum here in Canada. As Mike says….. completely normal.

I just bought a Husky 310 AS in 16 ga last week. Not received it yet. Undervalued guns IMHO.

The Indian symbol swastika before the German Socialist party started to use it was formed in a straight top and bottom square. Now when Hitler and his cronies became the major force in the party the Swastika orientation was altered to he one we now know as the Nazi Party symbol where the outline square is now rotated by 45 degrees. Strange how a Pease and happiness symbol can forever be cursed due to its association with a political party.

The swastika was used to denote a type of steel. Nothing political.

It would be enlightening to know if this Husqvarna Hammer Gun with swastika symbols on the barrels predates the adoption of that symbol by Hitler's Nazi Party.

Prior to that, the swastika symbol was used for thousands of years by numerous cultures as a symbol of good luck, peace, or well being. It was apparently used by ancient Nordic people, which could perhaps explain why it was found on a Swedish shotgun. Here's an article that details many of the periods and places it was used, before it was forever tainted by the Nazi's:

I have an old brass Good Luck token that was handed out by an American shoe manufacturer, which was made in the 1920's.

Crane Steel Co. an early U.S. manufacturer, used the swastika symbol on their steel, but dropped it after it was adopted by the Nazi's. I've never heard any reference to the swastika being used to denote any type of European steel, but there are so many types and trademarks used by steel makers that I suppose it is possible. I have a number of good Swedish steel carving chisels and hand tools stamped Eskilstuna, E.A. Berg, Sandvik, etc., but none have a swastika.

actually, the use of the swastika has been traced back some 12,000 years...it has foundations in many cultures throughout history, and around the world...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swastika

in the usa we have fairly recent exposure, primarily through indian tribes in the southwest. they, and most of the civilized world, turned their backs on the swastika, after the nazi government commandered the symbol....https://www.reddit.com/r/OldSchoolCool/comments/94jiil/members_of_the_the_navajo_papago_apache_and_hopi/

however, in an interesting recent action, the texas republican party executive committee has gone on record as rejecting a proposed ban on associating with nazi sympathizers and holocaust deniers.... https://www.texastribune.org/2023/12/02/texas-gop-antisemitism-resolution/?utm_source=Texas+Tribune+Newsletters&utm_campaign=af4a3d9fd7-trib-newsletters-thebrief&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_-af4a3d9fd7-%5BLIST_EMAIL_ID%5D&mc_cid=af4a3d9fd7&mc_eid=56a28bf0fc

best regards,
tom
