That's kind of cool. Looks sort of brutal in a lot of ways. Perhaps appropriate for the cartridge it uses. Looks heavy too. Does that big splint add a lot of weight? Looks like a few ounces in just screws. I applaud the owner for keeping the splint. It redefines "patina" in a whole other dimension.

Can you tell if the “Selous” strengthening side plates were fitted when it was built to try to make it gunbearer/buffalo proof, or were they installed as a result of a subsequent disaster?
Either way, congratulations on restoring it to the spirit of the original.

I much prefer the patina on the action versus the old bluing. What an interesting rifle. Thanks for sharing it with us.

The Selous plates are original to the gun. What are they made of? Bronze maybe? Superbly shaped.
