This week I picked up a 10 gauge Scott damascus barreled hammergun circa 1875. With the black powder proofs is stamped “11”. Bores measure .765 with no choke. I know 11 gauge is .750 but I don’t think the bores have been lapped for pitting. Under the accumulated grime, red rust and dried oil I found excellent bores. Also, the locks are rebounding but have a half cock, which surprised me. The gun came out of a NVa estate and the original owner was a judge in Philadelphia with last name starting with M. No engraving whatsoever but the wood has killer figure. Gun has a high English stock and fits me which is surprising since so many I’ve seen have miles of drop.
